Day 2: The wall, a movie and pork?

Day 2 was a day I had been looking forward too after seeing the itinerary. I have always wanted to go to the East Side Gallery and today was my chance. For me the East Side gallery is a representation of how people can emotionally and artistically express themselves on a piece of physical history that is both extremely important to the city and is covered with the scars of the time period. It’s about the rebirth and the new age of Berlin.

This is another point for me journalistically. It’s about creativity. For journalists sometimes it feels hard to be creative. It’s hard to be expressive or to convey journalistic work in strict environments. For me its important to remember that the work I want to create also is beautiful and tells a story visually as much as it does emotionally.

After visiting the East Side Gallery we headed out to wonder through the city. We stopped at a Photo Booth, went window shopping and grabbed a quick lunch. Then we headed out to il kino, a local cinema. I enjoyed the movie we watched style wise but I thought the content was just as important. I was not aware of the 1970s terrorist group in Berlin and Germany. I thought that the movie told the story beautifully and left space to find out more information. This is important journalistically to remember that there is always space to learn, and develop new curiosity about new subjects.

After a long day, and heading the wrong way on the metro we went to a great German feast. It was a great way to explore German culture and you can never think about story ideas on an empty stomach!
