Today began bright and early with a visit to the apartment of Mathias Sonne, one of the European correspondents for the Danish newspaper Information. It was really interesting to speak to someone who works as a foreign correspondent, especially for a publication that doesn’t publish “hard news.” I enjoyed learning about the various tasks involved in being a foreign correspondent, and how it consists of both doing a lot of reporting from home, but also going out into the field for specific types of stories. I also found Mathias’ advice of learning another “niche” language very useful, especially as someone who is fairly fluent in French.
After our meeting with Mathias, I spent most of my day preparing for my assignment. I am working on a story about the public transit infrastructure in Berlin, and how it compares to other major metropolitan centres in terms of useability and environmental friendliness. I sent a number of emails off to sources, and then went out and took some photos and videos of the various public transit options in Berlin- the U Bahn, S Bahn, trams, etc.
This evening, I went to a concert by my favourite band, Rainbow Kitten Surprise. The venue was located across from Tempelhof Airport, so I got to check it out a bit beforehand. The concert was incredible, and I am very lucky that I just happened to be in Berlin at the same time as my favourite band.
