The fifth and final day in Berlin started with two different options depending on what you chose. We had to choose to go to the Olympiastadion where there’d be a guided tour around the stadium while learning the sports propaganda during the Cold war era. The other option was going to the only liberal mosque in Germany called Ibn Rushd-Goethe Moschee where you got the opportunity to meet people like Iman Mohamed El-Kateeb talking about their more modern and open-minded approach to religion and the Quran. For me, I chose the mosque.
Afterwards, our groups met in the middle after a very hurried trip through different stations and trains to the city of Oranienburg. There, we went to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp where we were led by a very informative tour guide that led us through the camp and its brutal history. I had never gone to a concentration camp before, so this was a very intense experience for me based on my previous knowledge on concentration camps in Germany.
The night ended on a very bittersweet and adventurous journey with delicious Vietnamese food with laughs, a quiz on what we learned during the trip, and a roaring competition for free rounds of drinks.
